Wild Food Gathering
Drawing on the seasonal inspiration of the land, and the wild food offered there, these sessions explore creative and joyful ways of inviting wild foods onto our plates and sharing in that goodness.
Gathering around wild food is an opportunity to celebrate together the abundant potentials of a healthy and thriving landscape and human community. Eating is an activity we all partake in, and is a beautiful and simple way for us to connect with one another and share in the delights of food that is lovingly gathered, prepared and shared.
These gatherings offer opportunities to connect with seasonality, enhance our food resilience, explore food as a connective and joyous way of tending to shared wellbeing, and consider how our food choices can be more supportive to the wider wellbeing of the earth.
These sessions can last between two and three hours in length depending on what we prepare together. Sessions can take place either inside or outside, depending on the needs and wants of the group and the location of the session.
Offerings are primarily held in South Devon, however for longer group explorations, sessions further afield in the UK are possible.
WHAT’S A SESSION LIKE?
Standard sessions include:
Group welcome, introductions and landing together
Sharing a foraged tea or cold drink while we settle
A selection of seasonal foraged ingredients, lovingly and ethically gathered, supplemented with other ingredients to prepare a meal together - organic ingredients are typically prioritised, though this is flexible depending on availibilty and affordability
Introducing the different foraged ingredients, their nutritional benefits, medicinal qualities, habitats and ways to prepare them
Co-creating a shared meal that brings together different flavours and methods of cooking and preparing wild foods
Eating what we have created together in an abundant feast
Mindfulness and care taken around different dietary needs and allergies in the group, to ensure everyone feels cared for and included.
Space for participants to explore and offer their own creative ideas.
Sessions can also include:
A Community Foraging Circle before the cooking session so that we can gather our wild ingredients together, introduce the plants out on the land, as well as vital responsible and ethical foraging practices.
The opportunity to make something for each person to take home, for example, a jar of delicious green pesto, sweet treats, or a healing herbal infusion
Recipe cards which detail examples of the food preparation processes we have explored and other possibilities
An introduction into preserving and fermenting wild foods.
