Fermentation Skill Sharing Workshop
Sharing skills in the joys of creative fermentation processes to create delicious, nutritionally enhanced, preserved seasonal foods and drinks that nourish our bodies.
Ever more research is emerging which highlights how fundamental microbes are in shaping our health and wellbeing - from the microbiome of our guts to the microbiome of the soil.
Fermented foods have been central to human diets around the world for thousands and thousands of years. Fermentation processes enhance flavour and preserve surplus and seasonal ingredients. While the nutritional value of much of our food diminishes due to chemical agriculture, fermentation offers a vital remedy by enhancing the nutritional bio-availability of our food.
Live fermented products are becoming more popular, however their expense makes them inaccessible to many. Gaining skills in fermentation empowers us to make our own, and such ancient ancestral food practices benefit our gut health, community health, and our general wellbeing.
These workshops offer a practical introduction into fermentation techniques, sharing versatile tools to experiment in creative ways with ingredients, flavours and timelines.
Fermentation workshops can last between two and four hours depending on the scope of processes we explore. Sessions can be broken up across the day or across multiple days if needed.
Offerings are primarily held in South Devon, however for longer group explorations, sessions further afield in the UK are possible.
The space was welcoming and well set up, the instructions were thorough, and also left room for a bit of ad lib and experimentation. I valued this as it gave a sense of the infinite possibilities, even though the process was clear enough to ensure great results. I really enjoyed meeting the other participants and felt very nourished by the end of the session, as well as having gained a new skill!
